Retreat Sessions

Gentle Yoga with Colleen Carrell
A 45 minute session of stretching for beginners.  An integrative yoga experience that leads participants through breath and body awareness, gentle stretches and guided relaxation. The ancient art of yoga can help one unite mind, body, and spirit so that their true “essence” is revealed and expressed.

Handmade Hardcover Journals
Learn how to construct and design an original, handmade book that can be used as a journal or album.  The spines of the books are hand stitched on the outer edge using a beautiful, ancient Japanese method. We will use professional book making materials that include handmade papers, fabrics, ribbons, beads, watercolor paper and other embellishments.

Finding the Vein of Gold within - a journaling workshop
Using excerpts from Julie Cameron’s book The Vein of Gold – A Journey to Your Creative Heart, you will have time to write and reflect in the quiet surroundings of the newly landscaped Beale Gardens or the DuPont Chapel nearby.  “Your own words are the bricks and mortar of the dreams you want to realize.  Your words are the greatest power you have.  The words you choose and use establish the life you experience.” –Sonia Choquette

Stretching break and breathing meditation

Snacks

Prayer beads and jewelry making
Participants will have the opportunity to create several pieces of handmade, beaded jewelry, including prayer beads and necklaces.  High quality beads from Beads Indeed on Campbell Ave in Roanoke include semiprecious stones, wood, turquoise, silver, shell, and glass.  Learn what the stones and colors can symbolize and represent.

Guided Meditation and closing / Returning Home

"By Grace I mean an inner harmony, essentially spiritual, which can be translated into outward harmony."

“For each of us as women, there is a deep place within, where hidden and growing our true spirit rises...Within these deep places, each one hold an incredible reserve of creativity and power, of unexamined and unrecorded emotion and feeling.  The woman’s place of power within each of us is neither white nor surface;  it is dark, it is ancient, and it is deep.”
Audre Lorde
