JULIE HAMILTON ART / ON THE EASEL

May 13, 2020

Julie Hamilton Art has found a new home in Charlotte, North Carolina! I have set up a new, fun studio full of paint tubes, canvas, (and mess) to continue my mission of spreading joy and color to the world through paint! I specialize in custom work that is the perfect size and color for your home or office. For those of you new to my work, let me introduce myself!

I am a Virginia native that has been making a living as a creative for over 30 years. I hold a BFA in Visual Art from James Madison University and my Masters Degree in Visual Art from Hollins University. I started my career as a high school art teacher and was certified as an International Baccalaureate Art instructor. I adored my high schooler’s personalities, energy, and creativity. Ten years of teaching wheel thrown pottery, painting, drawing, sculpture and art history helped prepared me for the next phase of running my own business as a full time artist and private art instructor.

Over the years, I have taught at community colleges, started elementary summer art camps, after school programs, private lessons, adult ceramics classes, painting at senior centers,  paint by night parties, and served as a preschool art specialist. I was a member of the City of Salem’s Fine Arts Commission for 25 years serving as Chairman for several terms.

Let me tell you that raising my two daughters (Lilly 10 and Emma 16) while reinventing ways my talents could help support my family proved both challenging and ridiculously rewarding! My husband has been unbelievably supportive...he is my biggest fan and my rock. We celebrate 20 years married this year. Hard to believe. I still feel like we are just getting started.

We lived in Phoenix, AZ from 2016-2019 which will have to be the topic of another blog! Coming back to the east coast has felt like coming home. We have completely settled into life in North Carolina these last months and I have wallowed in the sights and smells. Honeysuckle, Lilac and Hydrangea in my yard. Magnolia and Maples line the drive into the neighborhood. Walking trails with bubbling streams, moss covered stones and butterflies everywhere. Our back yard seems to be a bird sanctuary...sometimes my hubby tries to take business calls on our patio, only to come back in because the caller can’t hear him for the birdsong!

So let me say that I have decided - despite the quarantine - that I am ready for my best year ever. I am using this time to plant seeds, to learn more, to reach higher, and teach my girls how joy is a choice. Especially in hard times.  I am joyfully painting the perfect canvas for your big wall. I am editing the online classes you can take with me from the safety of your own home! I am scheduling you for one on one and group Creativity Coaching to help you live your most colorful and fulfilling life.

We are just getting started!

I feel a little bit caught up by reading this. I do want to know more of your art journey. How did you develop and refine your style? Artistic influences? I’m excited to be able to see this next phase unfold. Best of luck!
